About Holzspiel Ebert (Germany)

Holzspiel Ebert produces traditional wooden toys in Olbernhau in the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge), Germany. This region is famous worldwide for handcrafted wooden toys.

Christian and Jürgen Ebert founded the company in 1995. However, the tradition behind their work goes back much further.

In the 18th century, mining in the region declined. As a result, local families began crafting toys from the wood of the surrounding forests. Over time, the Erzgebirge developed into one of the world’s most important centers for wooden toy craftsmanship.

Wooden Building Blocks by Holzspiel Ebert

Holzspiel Ebert building blocks follow this long tradition. At the same time, they encourage creativity and imaginative play.

Children can build villages, invent stories, and explore new ideas. Meanwhile, the simple shapes and bright colors make the pieces attractive for both play and decoration.

The company uses local woods such as maple, beech, alder, ash, spruce, linden, and pine. This choice reflects the region’s strong connection to natural materials and traditional craftsmanship.

The Tradition of Erzgebirge Wooden Toys

The Erzgebirge region has produced wooden toys since around 1750. When mining declined, local families turned to woodworking to support their livelihoods.

Over time, these handcrafted toys gained international recognition as Erzgebirgische Volkskunst — traditional Ore Mountains folk art.

Today, companies like Holzspiel Ebert continue this heritage. They combine centuries-old craftsmanship with modern safety standards and thoughtful toy design.
